THE STORY
From ₹1,500 a month to a ₹7 crore company
Anand Gupta today is a proud owner of a corporate gifting firm called Giftsmandi Enterprises, located in Noida, and finds immense joy in bringing smiles to corporate faces. But it is the spirit of resilience and perseverance that makes him a winner in difficult circumstances.
Anand Gupta was eighteen in 2005 when his father was diagnosed with a brain tumour. He took the first job he could find, at a small distributor, for ₹1,500 a month, and left it within hours because his heart was not in it. Airtel paid him ₹5,000. After that came three years of call centre work, until a friend offered him a share in a BPO of his own.
He left a job paying ₹35,000 in hand to take it, and put his own money in as well. The venture, a call centre serving a Canadian telecom company, made around ₹12 lakh in its first two months. Then the friend took the profit Anand was owed and disappeared, leaving him with staff waiting to be paid and nothing to pay them with.
What followed was two jobs at once. Nights at a BPO for ₹20,000 a month, days in client servicing for a corporate gifting firm. The clients he met in those daytime hours became the connections he built on, and in 2013 he founded Giftsmandi Enterprises in Noida.
The company turns over more than ₹7 crore a year now and was named Best Corporate Gifting Firm, Delhi NCR at the India’s Most Trusted Brand of the Year Awards in 2024. Corporate gifting in India is a market of more than ₹15,000 crore, and Giftsmandi covers it: branding on merchandise, gifts for clients and employees, events and exhibitions, Diwali. The plan from here is to expand beyond India.
And in this journey, throughout, he faced number of set backs which made him take a pause his life, but it was never a full stop. Taking it as a learning from each and every setback, Anand looks at it as Life’s lessons as he continued to conquer all those setbacks. It is a reminder, that Life may bring many challenges to you, but it is voice within that one needs to hear, of never to give up and the undying spirit that makes you emerge as a winner after every setback.
